I have recently started doing some digital graphic art attempts - mostly in relationship and satire-oriented. My mom did abstract artist, did pasteup work, and occasionally does her own card designs.
I'm a fan of Far-side art, M.C. Escher among other abstract art (surreal), and nice photography be it nature, objects, or people. I don't typically go for dark themes although I have moments, especially if there is good symbolism involved. But anything slightly disgusting does not make me feel good though.
I do find happy children's art particularly pleasing because of the exaggerated themes and different perceptions. I mean how could you not laugh when a kid draws Santa, but accidentally says "I Love Satan" - lol. That said, I will have my few existing pieces of childhood art displayed as well as some of my daughters.
Anyway, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I say to each his own that makes them happy. If it pleases others or sends a message to the rest of the world, then more power to you.
